Sleeping beauty

"Sleeping is no mean art: for its sake one must stay awake all day"
. Friedrich Nietzsche

I really do love my sleep. To make it as lovely as possible, I think you should go for the best sheets that you can afford, the best mattress you can afford and no televisions. Also, no taking work to bed, and definitely no using your bedroom as a dumping ground for 'stuff'!

The simplest, purest bedrooms appeal to me. Very little in the way of accessories, a pared down look with little colour and minimal furniture.

But that doesn't mean I like a bedroom to be austere. I like a bit of touch-me texture, in the form of a padded bedhead, a deliciously soft throw, thick wool carpet and downy soft pillows.

I think I wrote this post because I'm feeling sleepy. Is 9.00pm too early to get to bed?

Sweet dreams to you all!

“Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.” Ovid

Best wishes

I was watching the HBO show 'First Blood', and one of the characters (a bit down on her luck) was invited to stay at an elegant home. She sank into the crisp white sheets (that looked like the most luxurious, high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, perfectly ironed), and she sighed with happiness. I can relate! There is nothing like a freshly washed, lovely set of sheets in a great bed.

Love white bedrooms ... have one at home. Unfortunately, mine has a television hanging on the wall ... sometimes you just have to give in to a man's dream ;-)

Thanks for sharing!

Love, love, love that scrumptious bed in the first picture.

Made me realize even more how hideous and overdone my bedroom is.....definitely time for a makeover!!

Hi Catherine,

No 9.00 pm, is not too early to go to bed. I think you need to get your sleep whenever you are tired.

I do love white bedrooms and linen and the cleaness and simplicity of it. I agree with you about good quality sheets. You can tell the difference between Egyptian sheets and the cheaper kind.

Must be something in the air Catherine, today's post over @ The Hedge is along the same lines. Must be the Winter Solstice or something! What a stunning selection of images you've chosen, & yes, the bedroom should NOT be ued as a dumping ground. It's the only room @ Casa Millie de MOTH that's completed & gorgeous. MOTH even speaks in hushed tones when he enters!

Perfect! Crisp, white, and spare -- is my favorite setting in a bedroom. It washes away worry and stress, and leaves you with a perfect blank canvas for rest and dreams. So refreshing!

Love all of the texture in these rooms. I keep working to get my bedroom this pared down! Very relaxing when there isn't too much stuff around.

You've made it to 9pm! Good for you - I'm usually out for the night not long after the kids at about 7:30pm

Ah you're making me regret having just painted my bedroom an olive green. Now I'm wishing for a lighter room! At least all my bedding is white.

I have wanted a very simple four poster white bed like the ones in those photos for the last 12 years! Finding nothing in our budget last time we bought a bed, we settled on a white iron one which I love. My eldest daughter needs a new bed so maybe I can satisfy my craving for the four poster in her room instead. I am a huge fan of a restful white bedroom and have managed it in most houses, but for some reason the bedroom in this new house has turned into a dumping ground and it is driving me crazy!

I agree with Millie. I was really tired yesterday...what is going on? Those beds are heavenly and yes, the bedroom should have no tv's, work, or stuff. Nothing to clog your head more.

Like Blair, I'm also in bed by 9pm. It's not too early at all. Especially when you (I) get up at 4.15am.

Beautiful rooms. My bedroom is all white and occasionally some contrast with pillows. So sleepy here also. Wish it was Friday.

I'm really drawn to bedroom number 4, especially for summer-time sleeping. In winter, I think I'd rather cozy up for a nap in number 5.
You're so right about keeping this space tidy and tranquil... Oh dear, time to get off the PC and go straighten mine up!!
