And another sister….

What happens when a deserted, unloved and forlorn cottage meets a determined, creative, stylish woman?

This idyllic home, set in the mountains of North Carolina, and surrounded by woods, is the work of Carole Faust. I’ve had these pictures in my style file since 2003 and they are well thumbed, so please excuse the quality of the images.

Little touches of greenery are everywhere.

This once dark and dingy home is now flooded with light. Vegetation had taken over, shutting out light. Once that was cleared, walls were painted in shades of white, linen and taupe, while floors were painted in glossy white enamel.

I love the humbleness of this cottage and it’s colours – predominately white, with shades of brown and black to keep it grounded and touches of beachy blue.

Carol has filled her home with flea-market finds and collections of ironstone, apothecary jars and shells.

These twin beds are from the 1940s and have been painted black by Carol.

I never tire of this picture below. I love the touches of black, and the collection of black and white photography. The chair is a church hall fete find, bought for $5.

Carole’s bedroom is painted a soothing linen colour.

This is one of my favourite images from this home (below). I love everything about it – the industrial style table and stool. The chest with its tiny little drawers, the industrial lamp, the vintage maps propped up on the chest.

I love this porch – so fresh and tranquil looking!  I would love to find some cane vintage furniture like this to paint white.

Doesn’t Carol look happy in her cottage?

I hope you too are happy, wherever you happen to be, this weekend!

Best wishes,

What a beautiful home. I love all the soothing colors, and it just feels comfortable. It looks like a home that says "come in, put your feet up, we're relaxed here." I love that!

Lovely images!
I've heard that every room should have something black in it. These pictures prove that black even in a predominately white surrounding is a good thing.
Have a great day!

I can see why you have gone through these pictures so many times. I absolutely love this cottage. It's very much the direction I'm working on in my own home. Bright and nature inspired. Thanks for the tour!

Love the sea shells, I would be happy in this cottage too!!!

I so remember this house, its in a book of mine, she got all her sea shells for free from an add in the paper... I love this post, her place is perfect yet it has that undecorated feel which is so hard to do, great post!!! Enjoy your day, Chrissy

Exquisite images. I love each and every one and will come back to stare at them. I love a home with character - so much easier to decorate with lovely found things if the house already has those great bones. Gorgeous and prodigious talent! Carol looks like a nice lady!

Catherine, I already commented on this post...but I wanted to relay to you a conversation I had over the weekend, during which I was explaining how blogging has connected me to such places as Australia. I said that I would have to remember to tell you that your toilets flush backwards. I was told that perhaps it was our toilets that flush backwards. Your ears must have been burning! (Do you have that expression? It means someone was talking about you.) :)
