Old Book Love

alvhem book nook via purple area

Curling up with a good book is one of my favourite things to do. I always have a book ‘on the go’. They help me keep my sanity when times are tough, and I love the way the allow you to delve into other minds and different worlds.

But not only do I love books, I also love the look of books – antique books, that is. They can add so much character to a room, with their sense of age and texture.

But lately, I’m also loving ‘altered books’, where old unloved books are transformed into works of art.

This one, below, is my favourite, by wonderful stylist Paul Lowe. It’s so adorable!

Think I might just try this idea when I find a suitable book.

Catherine, I love, love, love reading books & having them around me! I suppose that's why I have close to 500 of them in my home (almost sounds like a fire hazard doesn't it!). The examples of 'book art'that you have chose are gorgeous. I would love to have any of these pieces. Sometime in the next few days I will do a quick little post of a linocut I've done using book pages as the background. Great post!!! Lee :)

I couldn't agree more!! My grandfather started a tradition when I was little of giving all of the grandkids a leatherbound every year. Now that I'm married my husband gets one too (to his delight! )

My husband's an English teacher & when we're out fleamarketing or at antique shops he always seems to find beautiful old books & brings them home. He reads them and I decorate with them & he pretends to be annoyed that I get all of the books out of order all of the time.

I also love the look of the "altered books" and he hates to see that happening to books so I'mnot sure I'll ever have any!! hahah
